The Cygwin DLL has a console driver that emulates a Unix-style terminal inside the Home windows console. Cygwin's default person interface will be the bash shell jogging in the Cygwin console. The DLL also implements pseudo terminal (pty) units. Cygwin ships with many terminal emulators which are determined by them, together with mintty, rxvt/urxvt
